About this Event
Shel Maala, your favorite online queer Yeshiva, is coming DOWN FROM THE CLOUD in Seattle, to offer a weekend of davenning and rad juicy learning.
The weekend of February 28 & March 1, Rosh Yeshiva Binya will be in your gay Jewish homeland to lead a Shabbes and Sunday of rad Jewish goodness, all in collaboration with Talmidei Talmideihon and supported by Kadima:
- Saturday Morning Shacharit & Torah Study 10am-1pm - Sing, pray, nosh and study together for Shabbes morning
^Potluck, so bring a lil something savory or sweet (and vegetarian) to share!
- Sunday Brunch & Learn, Purim-Themed Talmud Learning 10am-1pm
Learn some amazing Talmud about Justice and Praise relevant for Purim, and enjoy some food together with community and friends (before your big party in the evening)
For both events, we'll be providing basics in terms of food (Bagels, veggies, schmear), and some snacks, but PLEASE bring extra veggie potluck to share (savory or sweet, food or snack) if you can
Both events are at the Greenwood Collective
We cannot WAIT to spend the weekend luxuriating in Torah, Talmud and prayer with y’all
~~~
Alefbet isn't required.
On Sunday we'll be studying an amazing piece of Talmud about Justice, Praise and revolutions.
Here’s more on the text we’ll be studying:
When do we know that the Divine has manifested in our world? And how do we change our practice accordingly? Going from the examples of Hannukah and Purim, and the anti-example of "Israeli Independence Day," we look at when and why Jews have added verses of praise (known as Hallel) to their prayers in response to historical events. We'll discuss how we see Hashem in our world, what these examples have to teach us, and when we might think to add a Hallel to a historical celebration one day ourselves
