Humayun’s Tomb | New Delhi, DL

We begin July with our Fav city museum, two floors beneath the grand Humayun's Tomb, a different cultural realm, of erstwhile Nizamuddin unfolds, almost as if you are magically transported back in time, a landscape of 400-700 years ago, once alive with emperors, mystics, poets and whispered verses!!

In that age when mighty emperors waged wars for power and glory, there also rose another kind of leadership - one that sought to conquer hearts. The Sufi Saints. Their doors were open to all: Emperors and Slaves, Nawabs and Fakirs. Nearly 800 years since they first set foot in Hindustan, they continue to shape our spiritual and cultural lives.

The 'Khanqahs' they built became spaces of dialogue, debate, music, and poetry.

It was in one such khanqah in this hallowed ground that Delhi's beloved saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya asked his dear disciple Amir Khusrau to write in the language of the people - and the rest, as they say, is not just history, but poetry...Waah Kya Qawwali!

As we guide you through the museum, we trace this living tradition of the Mystical Love for the One Divine, through verses by Khusrau, and Rahim - whose voices are deeply tied to this very space of Delhi, as they all rest here for forever.

Through them, we explore how Delhi became the heart of 'Rekhta', 'Adab', and a shared cultural language that still lingers in our Boli (language) and Gayaki(song)

And then, as the evening softens into night.…we explore the grandest of Mughal tombs in Delhi. The first Mughal garden tomb that glows resplendent under the full moon since last 450 years! A quiet luminous finale to an evening of poetry, history and feelings of the Divine!

A must-do for Dilli history buffs, 'Shayari Kay Shauqeen', lovers of Sufism, and those who seek beauty - in words, in spaces, and in moments!!!
