Meet the People and Organisations

Huw Evans - Hazlehurst Fruitery

The founder of Sheffield Organic Growers, Huw first planted a 3 acre orchard of soft and top fruit including blackcurrants, gooseberries, apples, pears and a whole lot more! Huw supplies Zeds, Tonco Bakery, Nether Edge Farmers Market, Regather, Moss Valley Market Garden and Beanies Wholefoods.

Nick Johnson - Sheffield Organic Growers Veg Bag Scheme

A former Soil Association apprentice, Nick learnt how to grow the full range of vegetables at Troed-y-Rhiw Organic Farm for three seasons. He met Huw at the last apprenticeship seminar attended and hearing there was an opportunity to rent land from Huw at Sheffield Organic Growers, decided to take the next step in his growing career to plan and run a market garden. Nick has been supplying his own veg scheme Sheffield Organic Growers, as well as wholesale customers Zeds Wholefoods, Tonco Bakery, Beanies wholefoods, V or V Restaurant and Regather.

Matt West - supplying Beanies Wholefoods

Matt has worked at Beanies Wholefoods for 25 years, buying fresh vegetables and fruit for the lively, colourful shop in Crookes Valley, and helping start Sheffield’s first Organic Box Scheme. A keen allotment gardener, joining SOG fulfilled his long held ambition to grow food on a larger scale and increase the amount of genuinely local produce available in the shop.

Moss Valley Market Garden

Martin Bradshaw founded Moss Valley Market Garden in 2012 after a career change from nursing in the NHS. The garden is biodynamic and organic cerified and produces vegetables, fruit and herbs for its popular Sheffield veg bag scheme. The team also supplies local shops, restaurants and wholesalers.

Over The Hedge Flowers

Over The Hedge Flowers grows beautiful seasonal cut flowers using sustainable methods. As well as supplying bouquets and flowers for weddings and events, visitors can enjoy browsing the flower stall and taking part in the ever-popular Pick Your Own Flowers experience during the Open Day.

Sheffield Fruit Trees

Sheffield Fruit Trees is a specialist fruit tree nursery offering a wide range of fruit trees carefully selected for Sheffield and northern climates. Meet the team, browse the nursery and discover how to create your own productive orchard.

Sheffield Growing Experience

Sheffield Growing Experience is a supported horticultural project based at Sheffield Organic Growers. It provides adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff, developing practical gardening skills, confidence and work experience in a real organic growing environment.

Come along and find out more about this inspiring project and the difference it makes in our local community.

We look forward to welcoming you for a fantastic afternoon celebrating local food, flowers, fruit trees and the wonderful community that makes Sheffield Organic Growers such a special place.
