Since his first appearance with the brilliant Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, Carlo Tenan has become a frequent guest conductor of this distinctive ensemble. Now in post as its newly-appointed Artistic Director, he brings Turkey?s leading orchestra to the Sheffield International Concert Series for the first time with two perennially popular symphonies, Schubert?s tragic ?Unfinished? and Beethoven?s idyllic ?Pastoral?. The concert also includes the fiery creation by the great 20th century Turkish composer Ferit Tüzün. Composed when he was still studying in Germany in the 1950s, Humoresque (Nasreddin Hoca) is considered to be among one of his most important works. ?Pop-idol magnetism, superb technique and exhilarating musicality reveal a sure star in the making? is how the Los Angeles Times described cellist Pablo Ferrández.
