About this Event

Overview

Have you ever stood in front of a museum display and felt something was missing? In Western museums, Chinese wine vessels are often displayed through the lens of ritual, religion, and male perspectives. But these objects held more than that — they were present at feasts, at farewells, at moments of grief and celebration that women lived too.

This workshop invites Chinese women in the UK to look at vessels from the Burrell Collection through their own eyes — and write the label that should have been there all along. Through poetry, conversation, and collective weaving, we will add the voice that has been missing.

No prior knowledge or craft experience needed. All materials are provided. At the end of the session, your words will be woven into a shared textile — a collective re-storying that belongs to all of us.

This workshop is developed in collaboration with the Burrell Collection. Due to accessibility and logistics, the session is held near the University of Glasgow rather than at the museum itself — but the objects remain at the heart of everything we do.

Who Can Join

We are looking for 8-10 participants who meet the following criteria:

· Female, aged 18 or above

· Currently living in the United Kingdom

Please Note

research project at the University of Glasgow. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without giving a reason. All data collected during the session — including audio recordings, written responses, and the collective weaving — will be used solely for academic research purposes, kept strictly confidential, and anonymised in all outputs.

The stories and interpretations you contribute during this workshop will be shared with the Burrell Collection as part of this research. In the future, your words may become part of how these objects are introduced to the world.

By signing up, you will be asked to complete a consent form prior to the workshop. Your voice and your words will be heard — and treated with care.
