About this Event
Every year, more people across the United States experience worsening climate disasters, as home insurance markets exhibit a mounting crisis. Media and policy makers have been covering this crisis, but have not offered analysis and solutions that address the core issue: how we ensure safe, accessible, and affordable housing in a time of growing climate change-driven disasters.
To fill this gap, Climate and Community Project is launching a new report which covers national and state-level contours of the insurance crisis, in-depth analysis of prevailing industry narratives, and a comprehensive policy proposal that aims to provide protections for homeowners and renters, meet the moment of a rapidly changing climate, and contribute to climate solutions rather than to the climate crisis.
Join CCP researchers and community leaders to discuss our new US home insurance crisis research and state-level policy vision. Discussion will highlight:
- Research findings like socio-economic differences in who faces compounding disaster risks;
- Debunking prevailing myths about home insurance policy;
- Direct experience of how the crisis is impacting low income and communities of color and the provision of affordable housing;
- CCP’s visionary proposal for how disaster risk is reduced and insured.
