Shaping a Sense of Place: Historic Murals and the Aesthetic Character of Winter ParkThis presentation explores the stories behind Winter Park’s murals, why they matter, and the challenges of preserving them, showing how these artworks are connected to the city’s buildings, shared culture, and sense of identity. The focus of this talk will be four historic murals and the artists that created them: Joe Testa-Secca’s Winter Park Post Office murals, Joy Postle’s Casa Iberia mural at Rollins College, Don Sill’s mosaic on the Winter Park Day Nursery, and a recently-uncovered Sam Stoltz fresco in a private home.
In conjunction with the Winter Park History Museum’s current exhibit, Echoes of Expression: The History of Arts & Culture in Winter Park, this talk will be presented by Rick Kilby, the museum's Vice President and award-winning author of Florida’s Healing Waters.
