Shapeshift Performance Academy
About this Event
Welcome to Round #3 of Shapeshift Performance Academy. A constantly evolving creative fellowship, and all are welcome to join.
Together at The Uncut Gems, we will learn a masculine, construction-site themed group number involving choreography, lipsync, and prop work over the month of August that will be performed at The Uncut Gems Variety Show following the academy. All students who participate in the academy are also invited to develop a solo act for the show in a medium of their choice (optional). Classes will be held at MarYSoul Expression Studio on Wednesdays in August from 7:00-9:00 pm with optional time allotted in the studio on Sundays from 3:30-5:30 pm for extra group number rehearsal and preparation for opt-in solo acts.
- The class will be under the creative direction of Fluxx Aeonic and Matthew T. Fergus.
Fluxx Aeonic is a shapeshifting performance artist who dabbles in dance, drag, piano, singing, and poetry. They are inspired by quantum physics, speculative sci fi, emergent strategy, and are a believer in the theory that life imitates art.
Matthew T. Fergus is a Dayton-based artist with a deep love for dance and curating art through movement. He is a multitalented creative with experience in acting, singing, and modelling, and was one of the original Uncut Gems.
Together, Fluxx and Matthew bring an expansive set of performance knowledge to the table and are thrilled to be co-instructors for this iteration of Shapeshift Performance Academy!

Info: Modalities of Dance: Whether you are on stage, in the club, or in your bedroom, learn the fundamentals and tips to get your body to move in rhythm.
Ecstatic Dance Session: Overcome the fear of perception through dancing together to your favorite songs. The only rule is: Don’t. Stop. Moving.

Info: Creating an Act: Discern what you want to say to the audience and how to communicate that in the most you way possible
Building Your Performance Toolbox: Learn how to utilize lipsync, props, reveals, and audience interaction to enhance your performance
Rehearsal 3: Learn group number lipsync and rehearse choreography
Homework 3: Brainstorm Your Act
