Shapers, sing the songs of speculation is an exhibition that centers speculative fiction and its potential to break out of binaries, comment on current power structures and to imagine alternative temporalities. Together Hugo Chang Coffey, Cylo, MissAmy Assakaf and Celine Szabó have created an interwoven pocket of time, engaging with ways of remembering and transmission of mythical knowledge. The word “shapers” refers to sci-fi author Octavia Butler’s Parable-universe, in which change is described as an inevitable force to be embraced and engaged with. Similarly, the exhibition encourages personal and collective responsibility to shape our realities.
Through interactive sculpture, sound, performance and installations, we imagine into existence. Transcending bodies through birth, breath, and deaths, we traverse our stories into new matter.
