About this Event
Artist Monica Diaz has survived cancer, divorce, depression, and the painful process of leaving an abusive narcissistic relationship. Rather than allowing those experiences to define her only through pain, Diaz has transformed them into a body of work about strength and reclaiming one’s life.
Originally trained in architecture, Diaz made the life-changing decision to leave that field behind and pursue art full-time. In doing so, she moved from designing structures to rebuilding herself. For Diaz, art became medicine: a way to rediscover joy.As a cancer survivor, she now brings that healing power to others by introducing art to cancer patients and encouraging them to paint while in their hospital rooms.
“Shape of Survival” carries an apparent message: Your life can start again at any point. You can do what you love. You can enjoy what you do. And when you heal, you can use that healing to help others. This exhibition is not only about what Monica Diaz survived.
It is about who she became.
Presented by Ambar Santiago. Curated by Juan Pablo Santa Luna.
The Opening Reception is on June 3rd, 2026, at 6:30 p.m.
