Concert #1- Sigrid Sibley & Shannon Allen
Friday, January 23, 2025
7pm – 8:30pm
Join Maine-based musicians Sigrid Sibley (vocals, guitar, mandolin) and Shannon Allen (cello) for an evening of acoustic music featuring original songs and folk favorites.
A native of Poland Spring, Maine – local hero Sigrid Sibley has been making a name for herself throughout the region as a gifted singer, songwriter, and performer. Her song “Never Knew Love” was a winner of the 2025 Maine Songwriters Association contest. Her singing style is reminiscent of the best women folk artists from the American and UK folk revival of the 1950s and 60s. Sigrid began songwriting at age 14, with a focus on lyric writing. Her music draws on common folk themes, as well as her love for nature, agriculture, and simple living. Sigrid has musical roots in bluegrass, folk, and traditional American music, as she represents a vibrant and talented new generation of Maine folk musicians. She is joined for this concert by the talented cellist and former USM school of music classmate, Shannon Allen.
Cellist Shannon Allen is an alumni of USM’s School of Music. Born and raised in Portland, Maine, Shannon began his cello studies with Katherine Graffam and at Interlochen Center for the Arts. He subsequently studied with Paul Ross of the Portland String Quartet, and William Rounds at USM. He is an active freelance musician throughout New England for well over 20 years and he enjoys performing in many different styles and genres.
Shannon has been active in numerous performing chamber groups, symphony orchestras, pit orchestras, rock bands, and playing on film scores. Shannon has served on the faculty of the Portland Conservatory of Music and has volunteered with Hospice of Southern Maine playing music with ukulele player Lee Urban. He has also made musical appearances on screen to include PBS’s American Masters and the motion picture Little Women. Most recently Shannon has been exploring the range of the electric cello in an improvisational collaboration with Jon Clark entitled Contrails.
Sigrid has been an active part of the Maine music scene since 2017, when she first began performing in the Greater Portland area. She now plays shows across the state and beyond, rotating between summer festivals, farmers markets, songwriter showcases, coffee shops, and bookstores. Past performances include the Common Ground Fair in Unity, ME; the Maine Cheese Festival in Pittsfield, ME; the Poland Spring Resort summer concert series; and The Press Room in Portsmouth, NH. From 2017-2021, Sigrid studied Music Education with a focus in Composition at the University of Southern Maine. During her time at college she met and collaborated with local musicians in Southern Maine, including several who contributed to her debut album, Old Faithful Dreams, released on May 30, 2025.
