Shadows of Kink - Building Safer Attachment Series w. Li Tadaa
A Grow Up Workshop on Kink, Attachment and Somatics
The fourth workshop in the four-part Building Safer Attachment series. You don’t need to have attended the previous workshops to join.
Have you ever wondered where your kinks and turn-ons come from?
I have spent more than ten years in sex-positive, kink, and tantra spaces. I know the high of discovering a new kind of play, whether it is domination, ropes, intense sensation, or energetic sex, and then wanting more of it.
This can lead to empowerment, pleasure, and new discoveries. It can also become a way to chase intensity, regulate difficult emotions, or leave ourselves without realising it.
Kink can bring us into very vulnerable forms of connection. We may surrender control, take responsibility for another person, allow ourselves to be deeply seen, or place our body in someone else’s hands. This can awaken both pleasure and old attachment patterns.
In this workshop, I want to create space for us to become more honest and curious about our play.
Safer attachment in kink is connected to our ability to enter closeness and intensity while remaining in contact with ourselves.
We will explore how sexual desire can become connected to younger needs for safety, attention, surrender, control, approval, or relief. A kink may be a real and playful adult desire, while also touching something from our emotional history. Both can be true.
The theory behind the workshop:
In somatic trauma work, overcoupling describes two experiences that have become tied together in the nervous system.
Maybe you cry when you are angry because anger did not feel safe growing up. Maybe sexual arousal appears whenever you feel anxious because sex or masturbation became a way to soothe yourself. Maybe romantic or sexual connection has become tied to the safety you once needed from a parent.
These patterns developed for a reason. They may have helped us regulate, feel alive, or move through difficult emotions. At the same time, they can create dependency on sexual highs, anxious or avoidant dynamics, or the feeling that we need a certain kind of play to feel okay.
By becoming aware of these connections, we can begin to untangle them. We can find non-sexual ways to meet younger needs and then return to kink from a more adult place.
This does not remove the desire. It may give the desire more freedom.
As the final workshop in the series, Shadows of Kink brings the work with self-worth, rejection, and falling in love into our sexual lives. We explore how to enter pleasure, power, and surrender with more of ourselves present.
I am not here to shame anyone’s desires or tell anyone how to play. I want to offer more options, so that kink, intimacy, and pleasure can come from greater clarity, presence, and choice.
About the series:
Building Safer Attachment
A Grow Up series of four workshops with Li Tadaa at House of Play
Each workshop has its own theme and can be joined as a single event. You can also take part in several of them as a deeper journey into building more safety within yourself and in your relationships with others. If you have attended similar workshops with Li before, you can trust that new layers will come up this time.
As we move into intimacy, most of us meet emotional challenges that are connected to both the person in front of us and our own history.
From a Grow Up perspective, we learn to recognise when the past has entered the present, so we can respond with more awareness instead of automatically repeating an old pattern.
Safer attachment is something we gradually build within ourselves. It gives us more capacity to come close, fall in love, open up sexually, meet uncertainty, and still remain connected to who we are.
One of the biggest challenges in intimacy is merging. Closeness can feel beautiful, but we may begin to lose our needs, boundaries, or sense of self inside the connection. Others protect themselves by keeping a distance and never fully allowing the meeting to happen.
This series is an invitation to stand more steadily within ourselves and move towards greater romantic and sexual sovereignty. Even though each workshop can be attended separately, the four workshops follow a movement:
Are You Good Enough?
Our relationship to our own value.
Can You Get Rejected?
Daring to reach out, ask, and risk hearing no.
Can You Love Without Falling?
Opening to love without losing ourselves inside it.
Shadows of Kink
Exploring sexuality, power, desire, and how they can become mixed with unresolved childhood needs.
How we do it
Throughout the series, we will explore attachment through the body and look at how old patterns live in the nervous system and show up in relationships.
We will work with somatic practices, constellations, reflection, relational exercises, and emotional awareness, woven together with dance, play, and community building in a mix Li likes to call “trauma fun.”
CAN I JOIN AS A BEGINNER?
Yes you can, however take into account that this work may awaken fears, emotions and/or trauma in the body, so a basic capacity to self regulate and tend to your needs is necessary.
DO I NEED A PARTNER?
No - You may come with one (or more) but you can expect a lot of group exercises.
DRESSCODE
Comfy for dance and movement.
WHAT TO BRING
