About this Event

Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors

This celebrated Ukrainian classic by Sergei Parajanov offers a vivid and deeply atmospheric story set in the Carpathian Mountains. It is a film that blends romance, folklore and striking cinematography in a way that has captivated audiences for decades.

The movie was produced in Dovzhenko Film Studio in 1967 and based on 1911 novel Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by Ukrainian writer Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky that tells a "Romeo and Juliet tale" of young Ukrainian Hutsul lovers trapped on opposite sides of a Carpathian family blood feud. This is the influential work of not only Ukrainian but a world cinematography.

Whether you are discovering it for the first time or returning to a favourite, this is a chance to experience a remarkable piece of world cinema on the big screen. Expect a thoughtful, visually rich story that stays with you long after the credits roll.

Everyone is welcome to this free in person event. Settle in, enjoy the film and spend an evening immersed in a world of tradition, colour and emotion.

The film run time is 96 minutes.

Location: De Grey Court Boardroom - 109

Time: 6pm - 8pm
