Join Beth Shalom for this annual tradition of celebrating Shabbat as a community along with congregations throughout Canada and the rest of the United States.5:45 p.m.: Candle lighting
6:00 p.m.: Dinner (Preregistration required)
7:00 p.m.: Shabbat Unplugged service led by the 6th and 7th Graders along with Rabbi Jennifer Greenspan and Cantor Rebecca Apt. This service will include instrumentation.
8:00 p.m.: Oneg Shabbat and Speaker
Dinner menu:
Mediterranean Spiced Chicken or Eggplant Curry (vg)
Red Potatoes
Grilled Vegetables
Sweet Kugel
Salad
Challah
The oneg is co-sponsored by the Adult Education Committee and the Religious School.
Following the oneg, stay for a special presentation,The story of a Jewish wine-making family, with Rachel Lipman of Loews Vineyards.
The Loew family began their journey in producing mead (also known as honey wine) in 1870. In the late 1930s and 1940s, the family and their mead-making businesses, like many of their community, were destroyed during the onslaught of the Holocaust. Now the family is making wine and mead in Mt. Airy, MD.
Registration is required for the dinner. All other programming is free and open to the community.
