𝐒𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧 (𝟗𝟓𝟔𝐦, 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐨) – 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬
𝐒𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐫 𝐓𝐡𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐦 (𝟗𝟔𝟑𝐦, 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐫𝐨) – 𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤
A classic mountain walk taking in the Coire Thollaidh Horseshoe. Easy access to a splendid high level expedition in a rough and remote area.
Start from the CP on the W side of the River Finnan at NM905808. Follow the estate road for 1.5km up Glen Finnan to the bridge over the River Finnan at NM913819. Cross the river, follow the track N for 3.5km then re-cross the river on the footbridge at NM918850. Turn NE on to the track above the bridge. After about 100m, a stalkers’ path climbs N up the slope, leading to the SE
ridge of Sgurr a’ Choire Riabhaich. Climb this to its summit at 852m*. Continue to the Munro summit of Sgurr nan Coireachan. Descend its NE ridge and follow the rim of the huge Coire
Thollaidh over Meall an Tàrmachain, 826m and Beinn Gharbh, 825m to reach the second Munro of Sgurr Thuilm. Descend S to a shoulder, then SW down Druim Coire a’Bheithe to the bridge over
the River Finnan. Follow the track back on the W side of the river, past the bothy and join the estate road S back to the CP.
*For a shorter route that omits both Munros but nonetheless makes a fine ridge walk, descend W from the summit of Sgurr a’ Choire Riabhaich. Curve S around the rim of Coire Carnaig and up to the summit of Sgurr an Fhuarain Duibh, 749m. Turn SW down the ridge, over minor summits 576m and 553m. Locate and follow a path that descends the steep nose at the foot of the ridge, curves SE, then zig-zags down to the watershed at NM884848. Head E down Coal-Ghleann on the N side of the burn and follow the path to reach the estate road serving Glenfinnan Lodge. Follow the estate road S back to the CP.
