Sgraffito Ceramic Art
About this Event
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on exploration, participants will be introduced to the traditional sgraffito technique, where designs are created by carving and etching into the clay's surface.
Participants will explore how lines, patterns and textures can be combined to create expressive compositions, while experimenting with different mark-making techniques to develop their own visual language. The workshop encourages participants to engage with clay in a tactile and intuitive way, discovering how touch, texture and surface can become important elements of the creative process.
You will also be introduced to one of our visually impaired ceramic makers, who will share some of her works and how touch informs her creative process and approach to working with clay. Through this interaction, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of the different ways artists experience, interpret and create through the medium of ceramics.
Suitable for beginners and curious makers alike, this workshop offers an accessible introduction to ceramic art while encouraging creativity, experimentation and self-expression. Whether creating abstract patterns or representational designs, participants will leave with a deeper appreciation for the possibilities of working with clay.
By the end of the session, participants will have created their own personalised ceramic artwork and gained insight into the craft and creative potential of sgraffito ceramics.
