About this Event
SF Game Development is excited to be featuring two incredible talks on video game engineering fundamentals. Join us in person at DNA Lounge on Tuesday, October 21st from 5:30pm–9:00pm. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from industry experts, who will take the stage at 7:00 pm. Whether you're a seasoned game developer, an aspiring artist, a student, or an indie creator, this event is designed for you. Come mingle with like-minded professionals and enthusiasts, and enjoy pizza which will be available for purchase from the DNA restaurant. There’s a full-service bar at the venue with all proceeds supporting the venue. Your participation helps us continue hosting fantastic events in their 3,000 sqft space. You’ll also get a chance to demo indie games and meet the speakers involved with the event.
Git Gud at Version Control: How to Fix (and Prevent) Mistakes Using Git
Avin Zarlez — Senior Developer Evangelist at Arm
Mistakes are inevitable—but you can make them easier to deal with. This session is for indie game developers looking to deepen their understanding of Git beyond the basics. We’ll explore practical techniques for undoing errors safely, understanding when to use merging vs. rebasing, how to maintain clean histories with large binary assets in collaborative workflows, and demystify how Git actually works. Whether you’ve been burned by a bad merge, accidentally committed huge files, or simply want to avoid pushing broken builds, this talk will help you “git gud” at version control.
Surviving Success: How to Build Games That Scale
Gagan Singh — Senior Engineering Manager
Launching your first online game is a moment to be proud of, but many teams discover they aren’t fully prepared for life after launch—the steady work of scaling, observing, and recovering. While you can't predict how fast you'll grow, how players will react, or when you'll go viral, one thing is guaranteed: your code will fail! Building resilient games is hard, and often painful, made worse by the fact that you learn what you actually needed only after things break. This talk breaks down the design and engineering fundamentals behind games that grow while preserving community trust, based on lessons from top-grossing titles that survived the chaos of explosive growth.
See you all there!
Thank you everyone for RSVPing for our SF Game Development event with our fellow indie game developers. We can't wait to see everyone there. Make sure to arrive at 5:30pm for networking and game demos. You MUST RSVP on Meetup, Luma, or Eventbrite to secure your spot.
