Sewing Class 101 Machine Setup And Needle/Fabric Identification
About this Event
This beginner-friendly sewing class is designed to build true confidence at the machine by teaching the foundations most people skip. Students will learn how to properly set up and operate a sewing machine, identify and install the correct needles, and understand how different fabrics behave and why that matters when sewing.
We’ll start with hands-on machine setup: threading, bobbin winding, tension basics, stitch selection, and troubleshooting common issues before they become frustrations. From there, students will explore needle types and sizes, learning how to match the right needle to the right fabric for clean, professional results.
The class also introduces fabric identification and handling—covering woven vs. knit fabrics, stretch, weight, grainline, and how fabric choice affects sewing technique and project success.
By the end of class, students won’t just be sewing—they’ll understand why their machine and materials work the way they do, setting them up for smoother projects and fewer mistakes in the future. Perfect for absolute beginners or anyone who has sewn before but wants to finally “make it make sense.”
