About this Event
Workshop Description
In this hands-on workshop aimed at newer sewists, participants will sew a reversible bonnet from woven fabrics with the goal of achieving an easy win necessary to inspire confidence in the craft and to continue sewing!

Agenda
Day 1 - Jan 28th
- Bonnet design

Day 2 - Feb 4th
- Finishing assembly of bonnet
- Learning to use loop turners to flip our project right side out
- Top stitching and final touches
- Take home your bonnet and pattern!
Skill Level
This workshop is intermediate-beginner friendly. Participants should have some prior experience using a sewing machine, including basic stitching and familiarity with machine setup. This workshop is not suitable for complete beginners.
What to Bring
- 1m of non-stretch woven fabric total is more than enough, or at minimum a piece measuring a total of 80cm x 102cm. Using any scrap fabrics you have is highly encouraged! Below is a schematic of the pattern you can reference too see if you'll have enough. - don't be afraid to reach out if you have any questions
- In keeping with the sustainability objectives of Repairia, if possible try and bring a secondhand fabric. Some good options are old blankets or sweaters, scrap fabric you already have, or secondhand fabric from local shops such as Our Social Fabric, FabCycle or a thrift store. (I would look for wool, cashmere or even some cotton blends depending on the style. Have fun with it).
- As this is a reversible project there is an opportunity to design this bonnet to be uniquely your own! For example as pictured below, for one side of the reversible bonnet I have chosen a combination of dark blue fabic for the matching left & right panels, and then a scrap piece of striped fabric I had for the top panel. If you don't have scraps to bring and or don't want to purchase 4 different fabrics, making a solid colour bonnet is just as cool!
- It's good practice to pre-wash and dry your fabric in the way you plan to wash and dry the garment before sewing.
- Paper or notebook to take notes
- Optional: Sewing machine (Repairia has extra machines, but you may have an old one kicking around you’ve been wanting to use. If you bring your own, please make sure you have the correct bobbin and needles for your machine.)
- Optional: Any other sewing notions or tools you want to bring (scissors, thread, pins, clips, etc.). We will have the tools you need if you don’t have your own.
*All sewing machines and tools will be provided by slocan studio.
Workshop Format
This is a guided, hands-on session with demonstrations, individual support, and time to complete your bonnet. Participants will leave with a finished (or nearly finished) piece.
