Attention all! Whether you’re young or you’re old, there’s fun to be found and stories to be told! The Elizabethton Parks and Recreation Department, Main Street Elizabethton, and the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library are partnering up once again for Seuss on the Loose, a celebration of the birthday of beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss.
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 12 PM - 3 PM, the popular Seuss on the Loose event will take place throughout Downtown Elizabethton and at Covered Bridge Park. This event celebrates the works of Dr. Seuss and promotes the joy of reading for participants of all ages.
The fun begins at the Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library, where you’ll grab your “Sneetch Sheet” and get on your way, there’s Seuss-tastic fun to be found all day! Stop by and see our friends at Carter County Drug Prevention Coalition table in the library where the fun will begin!
Follow the map on your sheet and visit Downtown Elizabethton businesses to encounter Seussical treats galore, including guest book readers, activities, crafts, and more!

Once you’ve visited and added stickers to your Sneetch Sheet at each stop, then on down you’ll hop to Covered Bridge Park, where the fun doesn’t stop! Elizabethton Parks and Recreation will transform the park with scenes straight from the books of Dr. Seuss and bring special guests such as the Cat in the Hat and the Grinch.
The park will feature fun activities from local community partners, free inflatables so you can bounce and play, Magic Mirror Skin Art will be there with Dr. Seuss themed face paint designs, and make sure you stop by the food trucks offering delicious treats! (food truck list below).
Turn in your completed Sneetch Sheets to the big red mailbox in the gazebo by 2:45 pm for a chance to win exciting prizes! Come for the stories and stay for the fun, Seuss on the Loose has something for everyone!
