How did those who first heard Jesus preach The Sermon on the Mount understand his teaching?
The Sermon on the Mount is "a teaching given by one Jew to fellow Jews," according to the author of our next Bible Study, Amy Jill Levine. "AJ" is a scholar of the New Testament who brings her Jewish perspective to the words of Jesus. She will help us better grasp the allusions and analogies used by Jesus in the Sermon's original context.
In the six weeks of this study, we will look with fresh eyes, ears, and heart at the longest and most complete sermon we have from Jesus in the Bible. This is an opportunity for an enhanced perspective on the Beatitudes, the Lord's Prayer, and other familiar (and less familiar) elements of the Sermon on the Mount.
Join us on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:45 starting September 16.
Note! You do not need to attend each session - feel free to come as you are available. Previous handouts are typically available, and we'll happily catch you up!
