hard wire follows two scientists through a psychological journey and an embodied study of rocks and permanency. Their archeological dig leads to a deeper reflection on life in the face of a climate in crisis. Felt through the lens of two millennial-ish women, they fight to reconcile with humanity’s inaction and deflection in determining how, and if we move forward.

hard wire was written by Emma Kerson and Jane-Alison McKinney, with excerpts and references from Stone: An Ecology of the Inhuman by J. J. Cohen and from Thelma and Louise.

Together, Emma Kerson and Jane-Alison McKinney seek to create multifaceted, piercingly visceral performance works. They founded Bare Nerve in 2019 as the formalization of their long-term artistic relationship and as a means to integrate their core creative values.

Their debut production, hard wire, has been in development since 2019 through residencies at Shawbrook Residential (Ireland), the National Ballet of Canada’s Open Space, and Arts Orillia’s Dance + Design. hard wire’s premiered in Toronto with Citadel + Compagnie in 2023, and is now touring in Ontario with Ottawa Dance Directive, and Arts Orillia. Emma and Jane-Alison have presented and performed nationally at platforms such as Citadel + Compagnie, SummerWorks, Tangente, Artery, ODD, Guelph Dance Festival, Chinook Series, NextFest, IMPACTfest, and the Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival amongst others. They have additionally created in residencies including those spearheaded by adelheid, Peggy Baker Dance Projects, Mocean Dance, Moonhorse Dance Theatre, and Toronto Dance Theatre.

hard wire suit le parcours psychologique de deux scientifiques au cours d’une étude concrète consacrée aux roches et à la pérennité. Leurs fouilles archéologiques mènent à une réflexion approfondie sur la vie face à un climat en crise. À travers leur prisme de la génération Y, les deux scientifiques tentent par tous les moyens de se réconcilier avec l’inaction et l’évasion de l’humanité devant cette crise. Elles essaient aussi de déterminer comment — et si — nous irons de l’avant.

Emma Kerson et Jane-Alison McKinney cherchent à créer collectivement des œuvres de performance multidimensionnelles et profondes. Elles ont fondé Bare Nerve en 2019 pour officialiser leur relation artistique de longue date et assumer pleinement leurs valeurs créatives fondamentales.

Depuis 2019, elles ont développé leur première production, hard wire, grâce à des résidences à Shawbrook Residential (Irlande), Open Space du Ballet national du Canada et Dance & Design d’Arts Orillia. hard wire a été créée à Toronto chez Citadel + Compagnie en 2023. Maintenant en tournée en Ontario, la pièce joue du côté du Centre de danse contemporaine (ODD) et d’Arts Orillia. Emma et Jane-Alison ont présenté leur travail partout au pays, notamment à Citadel + Compagnie, SummerWorks, Tangente, Artery, ODD/CDC, Guelph Dance Festival, Chinook Series, NextFest, IMPACTfest et le Saint John Contemporary Dance Festival.
