September Open Meeting - FREE Youth Chess Program

Our FREE Open Meeting is for all students, elementary through high school. Every skill level welcome, from beginners to seasoned players. Whether you're learning how the pieces move or strategizing five moves ahead, our youth-led program aims to meet you right where you are.
Come check out The Pawn Project — the 2026 Small Chess Club of the Year for the United States — and join the youth who are learning, growing, and making smart moves!
What To Expect:
ALL Attendees: Play fun, level-matched games with peers.
First Time Attendees: Work with a coach to learn your club skill level and recieve your free ChessKid standard account.
Returning Players: Work one-on-one with our special guest or a skilled youth chess coach to work through our skill levels becoming more confident competitors both in skilled play and sportsmanship
Completed all the levels?: Keep coming and playing with peers your level! Middle and Highschool students who complete all levels of The Pawn Project and competed in at least one tournament have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills by mentoring and coaching fellow youth during in-person meetings.
These experiences not only improve chess ability but also foster focus, perseverance, sportsmanship, leadership skills, and lasting friendships.

Future Event Overview:
The Pawn Project Open meetings happen once a month on Mondays. Fall Dates: 9/14, 10/19, 11/16, 12/14.
Quad Squad Meetings will happen twice on Mondays this fall: 9/28 & 11/30.
Monthly Online Club Tournaments: The Monday following each Open Meeting.
*Check FB events or the website for unexpected updates/changes to any event (ex extreme weather etc).

**Chess meetings will continue to follow LCPL guidelines while at Bush Tabernacle: Parents/guardians remain responsible for their child(ren). Children under age 10 need a supervising companion age 13 or older present. For everyone's safety, any minor not picked up by closing time may be referred to local authorities.
