About this Event

This September, we have the gift of listening to a selection of poetry by regular Sawmill Poetry attendee Paul A. Jones, whose book After the Silence was published to much acclaim earlier this year. We will meet on Monday, September 14 (a week later than usual because of the Labor Day holiday).

As one Amazon reviewer wrote, Paul's book After the Silence offers "excellent imagery" and "grass roots, straight-to-the-point words that comfort and hit hard when needed."

Paul A. Jones is an Alabama poet, writer, storyteller, performer, and folk artist whose work is rooted in Southern oral tradition, memory, place, and the rhythms of everyday life. He is the author of After the Silence and co-author with Ron Whitehead of Searching for the Ghost of Hunter S. Thompson. His poetry and prose have appeared in numerous literary journals and magazines. Jones is also developing Backroad Beat, an album blending poetry, storytelling, blues, rock, and folk. Across page, stage, and canvas, his work explores home, family, work, loss, belonging, rebellion, and the grounded things that remind us we are fully human.

Jones's reading will be followed by an open mic. Poetry, spoken word, dramatic monologue, short prose, and songs are all welcome. Plenty is located at 41 W. Broad St. in Cookeville. Arrive by 6:45 to sign up to perform
