About this Event
Overview
This training session is designed to improve candidates’ knowledge, recognition, and initial management of sepsis in line with current national guidance and local policy.
Sepsis is a time-critical medical emergency, and early identification and prompt treatment are essential to improving patient outcomes. The session will combine theory and simulation-based learning to support safe and effective clinical practice.
This training will count towards your ESR Sepsis module and will be updated by the Learning Team.
Aims of the Session
- To increase awareness of sepsis and septic shock
- To support early recognition of deteriorating patients
- To develop confidence in initiating the Sepsis Six pathway
- To improve communication, escalation, and teamworking in acute scenarios
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, candidates will be able to:
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of sepsis and red-flag sepsis
- Use NEWS2 and clinical assessment to identify deterioration
- Initiate immediate management using the Sepsis Six
- Escalate concerns appropriately and communicate effectively with the MDT
- Reflect on clinical decision-making in a simulated environment

- Short teaching session on sepsis recognition and management
- High-fidelity simulation scenarios based on real clinical cases
- Structured debrief focusing on clinical skills, human factors, and communication
