Sisters Nora (Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) reunite with their estranged father Gustav (Skarsgård), a charismatic, once renowned director. When he offers stage-actress Nora a role in his new film, a deeply personal story that he hopes will launch a comeback, she turns it down. Nora soon discovers her part has been given to a young and eager Hollywood star, Rachel Kemp (Fanning), who begins to work on the film immediately.
