Adam Nathaniel Furman is one of the most original and provocative voices in contemporary design.
Working at the intersection of architecture, art and activism, Furman has redefined the role of colour, ornament and identity in the built environment. Trained at the Architectural Association and with a background shaped by Argentine, Japanese and Jewish heritage, he brings a profoundly multicultural perspective to his work.
He is the originator of “New London Fabulous,” a movement that celebrates expressive, joyful design as a counterpoint to austerity and uniformity. In this lecture, Furman will explore how architecture and design can embody cultural multiplicity, and delight — reminding us that the spaces we inhabit are never neutral, but alive with meaning. He won the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers Award for the Croydon Colonnade.

Adam Nathaniel Furman (HonFRIBA) is an artist & designer who trained and worked in Architecture. He designs large scale public artworks, furniture, products, and has published books for the RIBA on Postmodernism & Queer space-making. His works are in the collections of the Sir John Soane Museum, the Design Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Victoria and of Norway, amongst others, and he founded and co-directed the Saturated Space research group on Colour in Architecture & Urbanism at the AA (2011-2021).
