In 1924, with all of America held rapt by a sensational murder trial in Chicago, one of the defendants had a dilemma on his hands as he was sentenced to life in prison: What to do with his prized bird taxidermy collection of over 1500 specimens? He decided to send it out to Elgin, where a new Audubon Museum had opened a few years earlier. That museum, nestled in Lords Park, eventually became known as Elgin Public Museum.
Do we still have "The Leopold Birds"? If Leopold was sentenced to life in prison, why do we have photographs of him visiting us in the 1960s? You'll find out, in this creepy program geared to Seniors 60+ only!
This is a free program, but YOU MUST SIGN UP TO ATTEND, and attendance is limited to 40. You can click this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050949A4AD2DA0FF2-62351075-march
