Courthouses are inherently theatrical - a setting where true stories are acted out, with the audience (or jury!) passing judgement on right and wrong, crime and punishment, for high stakes outcomes of freedom or sometimes death.The Old Liverpool Courthouse was originally built in 1819 as a convict barracks (the second oldest in NSW after Hyde Park Barracks) and was used as a courthouse until 1972 - so for more than 150 years it was the place where the values of the day were tested and judged.
Recent archaeology has revealed much about the building's development and now, during the Seniors Festival, you can explore the site under the guidance of an archaeologist before we act out our own version of some of the trials of old Liverpool, right where most of them originally took place, with a storyteller to bring the stories to life.
