Success in K9 Nose Work is all about believing that your dog will search for odor and find hides every time you step into a search area. Having that belief is easy if your training is all about making the game clear, consistent, and rewarding for your dog.
Whether you are just beginning or at the highest level, this seminar is for you…
Seminar Focus:
My current focus is on humans better reading and understanding dogs to make more efficient handling decisions in competitive settings. I like helping people read fringe behavior, read an edge, and understand when and how to work with the dog to gain more information. How to recognize behavior with a sourcing opportunity vs behavior in odor without sourcing opportunity. How to avoid body language that prevents dog from finding closer together or complex hides.
Jeff McMahon, CNWI
Jeff’s resume includes having been one of the early certified K9 Nose Work instructor (CNWI), a competitor with his NW3 (x2) titled dog, Muriel, and the editor of the early National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW) member newsletter, along with being a faculty member of the NACSW and a certifying official for competition events. He also was a part of the faculty for the early National K9 Nose Work Training Camps.
In 2009, Jeff began a mentorship with world-renowned behavior specialist and K9 Nose Work founding instructor, Penny Scott-Fox. Together, Jeff & Penny brought K9 Nose Work to a wide variety of dogs and dog lovers.
Jeff's goals are to make the Nose Work activity fun and successful for each dog and to help each handler learn to read and understand their dog better, resulting in a bonded and skilled search team. He has extensive experience as both a competitor and coach and was one of the early students working with the three founders of the sport.
As a scent work coach, Jeff is here to learn about you and your dog and to guide you through the challenging and rewarding experience of building new skills, deepening your bond with your dog, and performing as a team beyond what you thought possible. Jeff has been in the scent work world since 2008 and has enjoyed many experiences as a competitor and coach – which he will happily share upon request. Coach Jeff believes that through the pursuit of excellence in scent work, we better the lives of our dogs, become better humans, and have a howlin’ good time!
