🎭🌿 WE HAVE A PLAY!! 🌿🎭
The Puerto Rican Cultural Center (Austin) proudly announces...
The Kacike Awakens
The 24th Annual Original Musical from the Sembrando Herencia Community Theatre Series
After two extraordinary weeks of research in Puerto Rico...
A new story emerged.
Some stories are buried.
Some voices refuse to be forgotten.
When a podcaster travels to Puerto Rico to cover the groundbreaking of a luxury mountain development, she expects to tell someone else's story. Instead, she begins uncovering her own.
Dreams, ancient traditions, unexpected allies, and a community determined to protect its future collide in an original bilingual musical where the past refuses to remain silent.
🌿 Coming This December
Every year, our original productions—performed in English, Spanish, and Taíno—bring Puerto Rican history to life through original music, dance, action, and adventure, celebrating heroes whose stories deserve to be remembered.
This year's production will feature:
🎶 Original Jíbaro, Salón, Afro-Boricua Plena & Bomba, and Taíno music
⚔️ Boricua Warrior Arts (Cocobalé), featuring traditional longstick and machete choreography
💃 Original music, dance, storytelling, and breathtaking scenery inspired by the history, culture, and living traditions of Puerto Rico
