About this Event
“Self-Proclamation: Declaring Our Needs and Wants” is part of a series of workshops and events that focus on mental health in Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities, sponsored by the Queens College AANAPISI Project (QCAP).
Join us on Wednesday, March 5, during free hour (12:15-1:30pm) for our next QCAP Mental Health Workshop! Actor/writer/educator Renee Floresca returns to help us get clear about who we are and what we need in this current moment, through interactive writing exercises and open discussion. In the face of personal, social, political struggles, we will collectively envision and document what we want to proclaim as important in our lives and outline the steps we will take to align with our self-proclamations.
No previous experience required, and all are welcome!
Snacks will be provided!
Masks are encouraged but not required. Visitors to Queens College may be required to present a valid state-issued ID for campus access. See the Queens College website for directions and a campus map.

Speaker Bio
Originally from the East Bay Area in California, Renee Floresca is a Filipina artist, educator, writer, mother, daughter, and friend.
Renee is a life-long learner and believes all students deserve to have a free and appropriate education. As a student growing up in the East Bay Area, she was not afforded strong educational opportunities. One of her strongest memories was cutting math class during 7th grade because her class was unsafe. She wandered off to the other 7th grade math class in which many of her friends were enrolled in the Gifted and Talented program. The teacher took interest in her rationale for leaving class and began tutoring her during lunch.
Since then, Renee has pursued learning about different modes and pedagogies of teaching, as well as studied the arts in depth. She has a Master’s in Poetry from St. Joseph’s College, a Master’s in Theater from Brooklyn College, a Master’s in Special Education from City College and a Bachelor’s in Sociology. She believes art, activism and education can be used as tools for liberation and self-discovery.
