Women & Femmes to the front! In honor of Women's History Month, Club Anti is hosting a Self Defense class and Narcan training in order to empower and educate the community. This is a BIPOC and Queer-friendly event. The self defense class will have a focus on somatic exercises to help regulate the nercous system. Join us Sunday, March 30th between 11:30am - 2:30pm at Redwood Raks. In collaboration with Humboldt Center for Harm Reduction and sponsored by Black Humboldt. Light refreshments and resources will be provided. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to Humboldt Center for Harm Reduction.
This is a Covid-19 cautious event. Hand sanitizer and masks will be provided. Masks are strongly reccomended. Please stay home if you are sick!
Meet Your Instructors!
Carrie Slack, Self Defense Teacher:

Carrie began in the Rape Crisis Movement as a volunteer, advocate and educator through the North Coast Rape Crisis Team. She has been teaching her community about child abuse and violence prevention since 1987 and Empowerment Self Defense since 1998. She trained to teach self-defense in 1998 with Los Angeles organization “Peace Over Violence”. She earned certification as an Empowerment Self Defense Instructor by the National Women's Martial Arts Federation. Carrie developed and taught empowerment self-defense courses for College of the Redwoods and Cal Poly Humboldt. She teaches empowerment self-defense to tweens, teens, adults and older people in community workshops. Since 2022, Carrie has trained and mentored new ESD instructors with Empowerment Self Defense Global in Athens, Greece and Los Angeles. Carrie will be leading the group through various defense techniques in this action packed class.
Ethan Makulec, Narcan Training:

Ethan has been the Executive Director of the Humboldt Area Center for Harm Reduction for about 2 years. Ethan began working at HACHR around 2022, starting as a volunteer, and doing several years of naloxone training and informal harm reduction work prior to that. Ethan also works on various outreach programs with HACHR such as the anything warm drive, which helps get warm clothing items to those who use their services, Ethan graduated college in 2020 with a philosophy degree and neuroscience concentration, with a particular focus on psychopharmacology and the role of drugs in our personal and shared lives. Ethan will be administering a Narcan training.
Karma Moon, Certified Yoga Teacher (200-hr):

Karma recieved her 200-hr yoga certification during the Summer of 2022, through a BIPOC scholarship with My Vinyasa Practice (MVP). She has taught private sessions, small group classes and online classes for people of all abilities. Karma teaches yoga from a trauma-informed lense, making space for differing needs. Karma's focus is on restorative yoga, which uses low impact positions that bring ease and comfort to the nervous system. Karma will be supprting during the Self Defense Training. She will be leading the group through ice breakers and a guided breathing exercise.
