Sefton Park Palm House Guided Tour
About this Event
Join us to tour the Palm House in Sefton Park, a Grade II* listed building, the jewel of Sefton Park and an iconic Victorian Glasshouse, followed by tea/coffee in the Palm House café.
Tour starts at 12pm at the Palm House entrance and takes about an hour. Tea/coffee and cake will be served after the tour.
We will be shown round the Palm House by a guide from the Sefton Park Palm House Preservation Trust.
Gifted to the people of Liverpool by Henry Yates Thompson it was designed by the leading glasshouse supplier Mackenzie and Moncur Ltd. The Palm Hose underwent a £3.5 million restoration project in 2001. The building was dismantled and painstakingly restored, rebuilt and replanted with its extensive collection of 200 plants representing five continents. The original statues adorning the exterior of the glasshouse signifying Horticulture and Exploration were restored as was Liverpool’s most popular Peter Pan Statue. We will be guided around this masterpiece of Victorian Engineering, learn about its long history and view the historic collection of plants from around the world.
