In this drawing workshop, students will explore the energetic, observant work of French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, known for his expressive linework and ability to capture personality, movement, and everyday life. The class will begin with a brief look at selected works to understand how Toulouse-Lautrec used observation, simplification, and confident mark-making in his drawings.
Students will then be guided through a series of structured drawing exercises inspired by his approach. These activities are designed to help reduce drawing anxiety, quiet self-criticism, and build confidence through practice. By focusing on seeing shapes, gestures, and relationships rather than perfection, students will learn how to truly observe their subjects and translate what they see onto the page.
This workshop is ideal for beginners as well as more experienced artists looking to loosen up their drawing practice and improve visual awareness. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to experiment, observe, and draw.
