Seeds of Survival
About this Event
Join Sankofa Soil for a fun, hands-on gardening experience for children! Participants will learn about crops that were carried from Africa and have helped feed Gullah Geechee communities and generations of Americans for over 250 years. Through stories, exploration, and planting activities, children will discover the important role these heritage crops have played in our history and culture.
Children will explore the garden, learn about traditional crops such as okra, peanuts, watermelon, and black-eyed peas, plant seeds of their own, and take home a growing project to continue the learning experience at home.
This family-friendly event combines history, nature, and gardening in a way that is both educational and fun. Perfect for children who love to learn, explore, and get their hands in the soil.
