Seeds and Cider with Worcester Native Plant Initiative

Come and visit with friends, sip some cider, learn how to clean and package native seeds to help Worcester Native Plant Initiative (WNPI) get ready for their Winter Sow programs. Come for a half hour or the whole time. All are welcome!

The Worcester Native Plant Initiative is a community based grassroots volunteer organization focused on getting more native plants into the Worcester landscape, advocating for more green policies, and educating the public on the benefits and necessity of native plants for climate change mitigation. We are committed to a vision for our city where all creatures are welcome and people cultivate what belongs in New England.

During the Fall, WNPI can be found outside collecting seeds. WNPI only collects seed from plants for which the origin is known and are 'straight species' native plants, ensuring to leave some for the birds to feed on throughout the winter!

These hand collected seeds need to be cleaned and packaged (by volunteers!) so they will be ready for another education project offered to the community for free, beginning in January: Winter Sowing. The cleaning and packaging of seeds and our winter sowing programs help us to get the native plants into the community to build a more resilient and biodiverse Worcester.
