Bring seeds to share, and pick up seeds to plant in the 2026 growing season. Attend the Seed Swap + Short Talks to donate, trade and try new seeds. Native plants, veggies, herbs, annuals and perennials are all welcome at this free event. There will be short talks to guide you to success when planting from seed. There will also be local, nature based groups and Master Gardener professionals to welcome you and help you in your 2026 plant growing experience.
Date: Sunday January 25, 2026
1:00 - 4:00pm - Seed Swap + Short Talks
4:30pm - Guided Nature Meditation
Location: Bison Room, Sedgwick County Extension Office
BRING entire seed packets, or envelopes with loose seeds (~20 seeds per envelope) marked with the COMMON and SCIENTIFIC name of the plant. Other information such as sun/shade preferences, soil type, location where collected are very helpful! If you bring bulk seeds, we will be able to help package and label them.
If you don't have any seeds please feel free to come and pick up seeds - attend talks - visit with any of the plant growing allies at the event.
Contact [email protected] to arrange collection of seeds in advance of the event so when the doors open, seeds are ready to be shared.

1pm - Doors Open
1:15pm Talk - Krista Dahlinger - KNPS - "Stratification and Germination - Successfully pre-treating seeds"
2:15pm Talk - Nicole Brown - Grassland Groupies - "Starting seeds in jugs and trays"
3:15pm Talk - Holly Byers - Growing Culture ICT - "Gardening and Recovery: Healing power of connection and community through gardening. "
4pm - Seed Swap ends
4:30pm Guided Meditation - Kalyn Boesen will lead a meditation to connect you with the natural environment around you.
Local nature-based groups will host tables you can visit to learn about their 2026 activities:
Kansas Native Plant Society - Local plant ID walks
Sedgwick County Master Gardeners - Seed saving strategies
Bee City Wichita - Bee friendly gardening and habitat in Wichita
Grassland Groupies - Local nature immersion and education
Growing Culture ICT - Cultivating sustainable communities
Space for this event is provided by the Sedgwick County Extension Office and the event is free - everyone is welcome to attend.

Donated a large assortment of vegetables, herbs and flowering plant seeds. They carry packaged and bulk seeds and have a large assortment of plants, gardening tools, fertilizers and hardscape items. Be sure to put them on your spring shopping list.
