Join fellow gardeners for a focused Seed, Seedling, and Cutting Barter at the Maple Valley Library. This is a special seasonal event hosted by the Maple Valley Barter Fair group, created specifically to welcome the arrival of spring and the start of the gardening season.Unlike the usual Maple Valley Barter Fair—which centers on handmade, homegrown, and homemade goods—this event is exclusively dedicated to plant sharing. Gardeners are invited to exchange seeds, young plant starts, and healthy cuttings, including vegetables, herbs, flowers, natives, and both indoor and outdoor plants.
Bring what you have to share and take home something new for your garden. There is no money and no selling—just thoughtful exchange, conversation, and community connection.
All experience levels are welcome. Whether you are a seasoned gardener or planting your first seeds, this event is about learning, generosity, and growing together.
WHAT TO BRING
- Seeds pre-portioned in individual packets or envelopes (clearly labeled)
- Healthy seedlings or plant starts (potted or in plug trays)
- Well-prepared, healthy plant cuttings
For easy and fair swapping, seeds should be divided into ready-to-share packets. Handmade or reused envelopes are welcome—please ensure they are secure and labeled.
LABELING REQUESTED
Please label items with:
- Plant name
- Variety (if known)
- Year harvested or started
- Growing notes (sun, size, days to maturity — optional but appreciated)
QUANTITY & QUALITY
- Bring what you can reasonably share
- Healthy, pest-free plants only
- No invasive species
BARTER ETIQUETTE
- Take what you need; leave some for others
- No selling or cash exchanges
- Conversation and knowledge-sharing encouraged
NO-SEED OPTION
Those without seeds or seedlings are welcome to attend, learn, and participate respectfully—many gardeners bring extra to share :)
