August 9: Sedge Island Kayak Adventure
In partnership with NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center, grab your favorite adventure buddy and join us for birding by kayak on Barnegat Bay, Sunday, August 9 from 10 am to 4 pm. We will look out for osprey, pelicans, shorebirds and anyone else along the water, all while learning about the salt marsh ecosystem these birds call home during the summer.
Birding is for everyone. All are welcome on our friendly and respectful Beachy Birder Adventures!
We will meet at Island Beach State Park and then head out by boat to Sedge Island Natural Resource Education Center. The Center is in Barnegat Bay off Island Beach State Park. It is New Jersey’s only Marine Conservation Zone and offers residential environmental education programs to participants 12 years of age and older. A short 15-minute boat ride from the Sedge Dock at Island Beach State Park will take us to the Center.
We will kayak so please be prepared to get muddy, sandy and wet. There will be biting insects. Please dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, bring lunch, water, layers, snacks, a hat, and binoculars if you have them.
We have ten pairs of 8×25 birding binoculars for you to borrow as needed, and we will have a spotting scope to look through as well.
Our outings are rain or shine but in the event of extreme weather we will reschedule for a more enjoyable experience. Let’s get birdy!
Meet at Island Beach State Park at the Sedge Island dock
