Do you want to be the best?Public Security LLC is leading the Maryland security industry by hosting their first Security Academy on June 1 & 2, 2024 from 10:00am to 4:00pm both days. This is the same day the law comes into affect.
Public Security LLC (SG Agency Identifier #30016) is a Maryland State authorized training provider for Security Guard 12 hour training for those seeking their license. Course number for this class coming soon and will be posted here. This page is frequently updated Check back here on occasion.

UPDATE: Here is why you need to take our training instead of taking it somewhere else. We are offering security academy students who take our June 1 and 2, 2024 class additional training for free.

FREE ASP expandable police baton certification 4 hours June 4
These two events are separate from the mandated Maryland State security guard training and not a requirement. This is our commitment to our new security officers to provide them with the tools they may use during the course of their duties.

This is the required training that meets the 12 hour training requirement for persons seeking their Maryland Security Guard license.
Starting June 1st 2024, all Security Guards will be required to take 12 hours of training and be licensed. They are required to take continuing training requiring an additional 8 hours of training on 17 training objectives.
We are focusing on making those who attend our training the best and most informed Security Officers in Maryland.
Our lead instructor is Barry Donadio (Maryland Certified Security Guard Instructor #40038) In, a former member of the U.S. Secret Service. We twill go above and beyond the minimum standards to make you the best Security Officer. We are planning of having guest speakers and instructors that are experts in security and law enforcement to provide students with a wealth of knowledge.

Based on the passage of SB 760, the following changes to Title 19 of the Business Occupations and Professions Article are effective June 1, 2024:A guard that is a direct employee for a company will now be required to obtain a security guard card.All security guard applicants will be required to submit documentation of satisfactory completion of the mandatory security training with their original and renewal applications.A security guard applicant is exempt from the required training, if the applicant provides supporting documentation that they have been employed as a police officer in the three (3) years immediately preceding the application.A security guard applicant is subject to disapproval if they have had any findings by a hearing board or other government entity for excessive force or making a false statement during the applicant's employment as a police officer.Any use of force by a security guard while on duty, must be reported to the agency or employer within 48 hours.
A security guard agency or security guard employer shall report any use of force by an on-duty security guard to the Licensing Division within 48 hours after receiving the use of force form from a guard that they employ.
A security guard agency or security guard employer, shall notify the Licensing Division within 48 hours, if a guard that they employed is arrested for a crime of violence
Required Training Subjects For Security Guards in Maryland as per Maryland Senate Bill 760(1) RELEVANT CRIMINAL LAW;(2) THE APPROPRIATE USE OF FORCE;(3) THE USE OF ALTERNATIVES TO FORCE;(4) THE USE OF DE–ESCALATION TECHNIQUES; AND(I) ARE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE;(II) HAVE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH OR OTHER DISABILITIES; OR(5) PROMOTING APPROPRIATE INTERACTIONS WITH INDIVIDUALS(III) ARE IN CRISIS.(C) SUBJECT TO SUBSECTION (D) OF THIS SECTION, THE TRAININGPROGRAMS IDENTIFIED BY THE MARYLAND POLICE TRAINING AND STANDARDSCOMMISSION UNDER SUBSECTION (A) OF THIS SECTION SHALL SATISFY THE FOLLOWING TRAINING REQUIREMENTS17

SG-1 Identify the requirements for receiving and maintaining a security guard certification in the State of Maryland.
SG-2 Identify the limitations to receiving and maintaining a security guard certification in the State of Maryland.
SG-3 Given various scenario, demonstrate the ability to identify elements of a given crime, using the annotated code of Maryland and/or the Digest of Criminal Laws.
SG-4 Identify the legal limits of a security guards authority to arrest and/or detain a suspect.
SG-5 Define what constitutes use of force.
SG-6 Identify when use of force is authorized and prohibited.
SG-7 Identify the reporting requirements a security guard must complete force is used.
SG-8 Identify the legal ramifications for security guards and their employer when force is used.
SG-9 Define what constitutes de-escalation.
SG-10 Identify how time, distance, and cover can be used to de-escalate a situation.
SG-11 Identify the role of communication in de-escalating a situation.
SG-12 Identify the limitations and requirements for a security guard carrying weapons.
SG-13 Identify techniques that a security guard may employ when encountering an individual in crisis.
SG-14 Identify techniques that a security guard may employ when encountering an individual with a disability.
SG-15 Identify techniques that a security guard may employ when encountering a juvenile.
SG-16 Identify techniques that a security guard may employ when encountering an individual with behavioral health concerns.
SG-17 Identify techniques on how to seek aid for a person in need.

Our responsibility is provide the training for those seeking their license. We do not sponsor individuals to obtain their security license merely because they are taking this training through us. We do consider persons for employment who follow the employment process found on our jobs page. We highly encourage licensed security officers to provide us with their contact information to be placed on our list of on call Officers for large scale events.
Will I receive a diploma when I graduate? YES
Will there be a class photos and graduation photos? YES
Will we have a graduation ceremony? May I invite my family and loved ones? YES
We will have a short graduation ceremony at 4:30pm Loved ones will be able to access the building at 4:15. Your family may be at the podium with you when you receive your diploma.
