Secrets of Forest Park (Queens): A Storytelling Walking Tour
About this Event
You don't need to leave New York City to go leaf peeping! New York isn’t just a concrete jungle—and its history isn't always what the textbooks tell you. To celebrate this season, join and for a Storytelling Field Trip Experience through Forest Park in Queens, a community event for history nerds and nature lovers alike.
We’re heading to Forest Park, to explore the Park’s natural and social history through live storytelling. In total, it spans 543 acres (larger than Prospect Park.) It features a massive 165-acre "Forever Wild" oak forest (the largest in Queens!) and a landscape carved by the Wisconsin glacier 20,000 years ago. We'll see trees that are more than 150 years old, and we'll visit the famous Pine Grove.
Josh Otero from Natural Areas Conservancy and Christa Avampato from NYC's Secrets & Lies, will be your field guides and storytellers for this immersive experience into the wilder side of New York. Come ready for some fresh air and forgotten secrets. All ages are welcome.
