Join us at Provan Hall for an afternoon discussion between author Clare Hunter and curator Emma Inglis on period textiles and embroidery.
About this Event

Clare Hunter is the author of Threads of Life and Embroidering her Truth: Mary Queen of Scots and the Language of Power where she shares many fascinating, forgotten, little known and overlooked stories of sewing. For the last thirty years she has been involved with textiles as a community artist, exhibition curator and banner maker.

Emma Inglis is the regional curator for the National Trust of Scotland's properties in Glasgow and the West, and curated the collaborative show 'Stitched' which ran at Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh from the end of 2024 into 2025. She is a passionate proponent for textiles to be seen and experienced as artworks, and to 'to highlight the talent, creativity and skill of the women and girls who made these unique pieces over two centuries'.

We are excited to have them both in our late medieval mansion house Provan Hall, to discuss the type of textiles that would have decorated the house in the 16th century, and the secrets embroidery can reveal about women's lives.

A local group of weavers will be providing demonstrations of weaving and spinning techniques after the talk, refreshments will be provided and there will be a book signing by Clare Hunter.
