Surreal, high-energy meditation on suspension of disbelief: a playful spectacle of staged death thru lenses of comedy, horror, ritual, dance
About this Event

4/1`1 Seconds: New Play by Gay Author Nicolas Noreña @ 62Center (Williamstown)
Saturday, 8:00-9:30pm
'62 Center for Theatre and Dance
1000 Main St
Williamstown, MA 01267

Seconds is a surreal, high-energy meditation on the suspension of disbelief and a playful spectacle of staged death through the lenses of comedy, horror, ritual, and dance. Fusing live narration, masked transformations, and choral dance, the text draws on the words of iconic writers, including Tennessee Willliams, Can Xue, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, and Gertrude Stein.
Seconds examines how we imprint ourselves on one another and how we carry each other in our memories. The performance contemplates the delicate line between life and death, connecting us with the ancient roots of theater as a spiritual act of collective unbecoming.
The Million Underscores is an experimental theatre company based in Brooklyn. Its founders are Nicolas Noreña (Artistic Director) and Timothy Scott (Associate Artistic Director), who are married. Nicolas is the Author and Director of Seconds, and Timothy is one of the actors. They make highly visual and physical eccentric theater works that interrogate the action and the form of theater, in which every element of performance is an independent voice. Nicolas currently teaches at the Experimental Theater Wing in New York University, and is the archive director of the Mary Overlie Legacy Project. Both Nicolas and Timothy were LEIMAY fellows in 2015-2020, and LAB artist swith Target Margin Theater in 2019.
Nicolas Noreña is also founder and CEO of The Succulent Bite, a popular social media platform. His family is from Colombia, but was born in Chicago and raised in Madrid.
