About this Event
As part of our Winter Studio Workshop series, we welcome you to spend the evening in our beautifiul new studio in the heart of Helston to learn about and celebrate local seaweeds. Throughout the evening we will collectively prepare a variety of seaweed dishes. We have chosen recipes which showcase the versaility of seaweeds and how they can best be used in the winter months - harnessing their nutrients and flavour.
Why celebrate seaweeds in the middle of winter? Seaweeds are a special winter food - certain species remain in abundance throughout the darkest months; allowing foragers to still enjoy their abudant nutrients. This fact also means seaweeds have been used for centuries as herbal remedies for winter ailments.
We will spend time teaching you to recognise and identify local seaweed species. The cultural history of seaweeds will be discussed, as well it’s agricultural, scientific and ecological uses. You will learn how to forage, store and use this abundant resource.
Presavation of seaweeds is important to allow you to have regular access to cooking with seaweeds; all seaweeds have seasons, meaning they aren't available all year round. It also helps to spread the effort of your foraging further. We will teach you our favourite ways to preserve different species and you will get a chance to try some yourself to take home with you.

Duration: 2-3 hours
