Seasonal Hike

In October 2023, the Park District partnered with The Nature Conservancy to begin a major restoration project at John A. Wannemacher Nature Reserve. Join us for a guided hike through the restored stream, wetland, and riparian areas, and discover how wetlands help restore balance to local ecosystems. Offered in spring, summer, and fall, this hiking series highlights the changing seasons—each revealing a unique story of renewal, adaptation, and the interconnectedness of life. Summer: Growth and Abundance During the lush summer months, cattails, sedges, and rushes reach full height, and dragonflies patrol the air. This hike focuses on plant identification, pollinator activity, and how aquatic vegetation provides habitat for fish and insects. Participants can explore food webs, observe animal tracks in the mud, and learn about native vs. invasive species management in restoration sites. Registration is required for this FREE program. https://miamicountyparks.recdesk.com/Community/Program/Detail?programId=2027
