Seagrass for Snapper launch – Victor Harbor SA

Join us for the launch of our Seagrass for Snapper project in Victor Harbor.
This relaxed afternoon will bring together OzFishers, recreational fishers, community members, supporters and project partners to learn why seagrass is so important to our local marine environment and recreational fisheries, and why restoring it matters.
The event will provide a simple introduction to:
- Why seagrass is important for fish and fishing.
- The role seagrass meadows play as habitat, nursery areas and shelter for juvenile fish.
- The need for seagrass restoration in the Victor Harbor region.
- The different types of seagrass found around Victor Harbor, including local species such as Posidonia and Amphibolis.
- What OzFish is doing to restore and protect fish habitat.
- How recreational fishers and the wider community can get involved.
The afternoon will remain informal, with a short talk and some food to meet the project team, chat with fellow OzFishers and connect with our supporters; followed by a walk along the beach to learn and collect seagrass fragments.
What to bring
- Closed-toe shoes that may get wet.
- Suitable clothing for working outdoors.
- Hat, sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Drink bottle and snacks.
- A chair or picnic rug if desired.
