Sea shanties are a unique music tradition with deep roots in African American, English, and Irish culture yielding an infectious repertoire of simple songs that have helped people accomplish a common goal since the 1500s. In this program, we will go on a participatory journey across both the High Seas and the Great Lakes, singing together, learning the roles shanties played on the ship, and the cultural seeds that grew into this rousing maritime tradition. If weather permits, this will be an outdoor concert in the south yard.
