Sea Me: First Look Screening & Community Mixer
About this Event
Join Assembly in celebrating Assembly Fellow Shamar Amir for an exclusive first look at his debut narrative short film, Sea Me.
Developed as Shamar's Assembly Fellowship Capstone Project, Sea Me marks the culmination of a year of artistic growth, during which Shamar expanded his practice through screenwriting, acting, directing, and producing. The film is a tender celebration of Black queer love, exploring the vulnerability, excitement, and possibility of a first date through a story about what it means to be truly seen.
Following the screening, stay for a community mixer to celebrate this milestone alongside Shamar, fellow artists, collaborators, friends, and neighbors. We'll gather to connect, dance, network, and honor the work that has grown through the Assembly Fellowship.
We hope you'll join us for an evening of film, conversation, and community as we celebrate Shamar and this exciting next chapter in his artistic practice.
Assembly is Recess's artist-led fellowship and alternative-to-incarceration program for system-impacted young adults. Through mentorship, creative experimentation, and community, Fellows develop new artistic practices while building the relationships and resources that support their futures. Capstone Projects are an opportunity for Fellows to share new work with the public and celebrate the culmination of their Fellowship experience.

Founded in 2016, Assembly offers system-impacted young people aged 18-26 an inroad to art and connections to working artists, while serving as an alternative to incarceration and intersecting systems of harm and oppression. Assembly empowers young people to take charge of their own life story and envision a future through art.
