Sea Level Rise Mixer & Bonfire Potluck
About this Event
Join us for a special evening at the REAP Climate Center as we gather around the bonfire for a community potluck and conversation about one of the Bay Area's most pressing climate challenges: Sea Level Rise.
This is an informal mixer and discussion intended to bring together people from across disciplines who are thinking about, studying, or working on sea level rise adaptation. Whether you're a planner, landscape architect, engineer, advocate, scientist, student, policymaker, artist, or simply curious about the future of our shoreline, we'd love to have you join us.
The evening will be facilitated by Suraya Akhenaton, a recent Landscape Architecture graduate whose work focuses on sea level rise adaptation. Together we'll explore how changing climate conditions are already affecting the REAP campus, share ideas and experiences, and make new connections with others passionate about building resilient communities.
Why REAP?
REAP Climate Center is a 4.26-acre living laboratory and outdoor campus in Alameda dedicated to increasing access to climate action through ecological experiences and climate workforce development. Like many places around the Bay, our campus is already experiencing the impacts of sea level rise. Rising brackish groundwater is visible in parts of the site, and our bioswales and ecological infrastructure demonstrate how nature-based solutions can help communities adapt to changing conditions.
While we don't have all the answers, our hope is that we can provide the space for gathering to cross-pollinate ideas, build relationships, and strengthen the growing community of people working toward a more climate-resilient Bay Area.
